Woman Times Seven
1967, directed by Vittorio de Sica and starring Shirley Mc Laine is a series of seven sketches portraying women in seven stereotypical “crises”. From the neglected wife of a successful author, who ends up taken for crazy, as she acts the part in hope of attracting his attention, to that of a failed attempt at suicide with her lover, making a “statement to the world”, throughout the streets of Paris, Shirley Mc Laine plays her parts admirably. It is a humorous (sometimes dark) and interesting social critique of the condition of housewives in France in the 1960’s, also addressing adultery during the time before the Sexual Revolution.
